Get Britain Talking is such an amazing campaign currently running by ITV to encourage anyone suffering with mental health to take time out to speak to close family or friends. It was only last night I seen this when like everyone else I was busy looking on my phone and drinking my cup of tea whilst sitting on the sofa with my partner. I think we are all guilty of maybe not voicing our issues or worries and this can be a simple step towards a happy worry-free mind.
Its so easy to slip into the routine of coming home, kicking your shoes off and getting stuck into your usual chaos when someone we love could be suffering in silence, most families know someone or have a loved one that has experienced some kind of mental health at some stage. This campaign has such a powerful message to let those people know you really are NOT alone and a problem shared really can be a problem solved.
The reason I chose this blog was because although it’s a topic close to my heart I also believe there is a strong link between mental health and oral health.
Usually, patients suffering with a form of mental health demonstrate that they are not able to look after their physical health and if they can it’s a problem maintaining it.
When physical health is neglected it then affects emotional and mental health creating a cycle. The deterioration of physical health can progress to low self-esteem, self-appreciation and self-goodness.
We can try and prevent this becoming a factor and this is by three simple key messages brush last thing at night and at one other time during the day with a fluoride toothpaste, Reduce the amount and how often they have sugary foods and drinks and visit the dentist regularly, as often as they recommend.
Hopefully with following this we can make a change to someone’s life and give them the confidence boost they may need to seek advice or help.
