Botulinum Toxin- The effects on the Platysma Muscle

Botulinum toxin has been widely used for facial rejuvenation. Today it is common for practitioners to treat the whole face with the toxin, rather than confining it to individual areas.

The traditional treatment commonly known is when the upper face is successfully treated. This can lead to a  disharmony of the face and can be a giveaway of cosmetic intervention. We aim to educate our patients about the use of toxins and other rejuvenation procedures in the mid-face, lower-face, neck and décolletage, as this is something not often covered in the media and patients may be unaware of the options.

A Nefertiti lift, named after the elegant-necked Egyptian queen, uses strategically placed amounts of a toxin to paralyse parts of the platysma muscle (as shown on the diagram below) This relaxes the bands of muscle that pull the lower parts of the jaw that tend to exaggerate the jowls.

By placing toxin in this area you can create a firmer jawline and smoother neck giving a more youthful appearance.

What are your options for refining your look at Trinity Dental?

So many people are now considering facial aesthetics treatments to enhance their look. The range of available procedures is expanding all the time. Choosing which one might be right for you can be tricky. Working with a practitioner you can trust is essential. You want them to look after your health, and make recommendations about your look, based on their experience.

At Trinity Dental, we offer facial aesthetics in Rothwell at our practice. This is because we want to give patients a safe, clinical environment in which to have their beauty enhancements. We have experience in this area of the body and our staff are medically trained.

Facial Aesthetic in RothwellWhat is available?

We have a range of treatments that we can offer you depending on your needs. Discuss any particular areas you want to tackle with your practitioner and they can offer advice.

For example, if you want to focus on areas of the face where fine lines are caused by the movement of the muscles in your face, you might consider Botox. This inhibits muscle motion in targeted areas and stops them from constantly reforming wrinkles as you form expressions.

If you prefer to tackle areas where the skin already has fine lines or shallow scars, dermal fillers would be more suitable. These plump up certain areas decreasing the depth and, therefore, appearance of indentations. A common place to have dermal fillers injected is around the mouth.

We also offer alternatives to these methods such as platelet rich plasma therapy, dermalrola therapy and facial peels. We have something to suit everyone who wants to take advantage of non-surgical cosmetic procedures.

How do you choose?

When you are considering a treatment, you weigh up the factors involved. These might include the results you want, costs involved, longevity of the effect of each treatment and so on. We have experience talking patients through their options so that they can make the choice that is right for them.

We offer you all the information including the challenges of each treatment as well as the benefits. When you know what to expect, you are more likely to feel comfortable, prepared and, ultimately, happy with your treatment.

You say “Tomato”, I say “Tomato”

Wrinkly TomsRipe Toms

Tomatoes once ripe have smooth plump skin and this is similar to our own skin similarly like tomatoes over time the skin loses its elasticity leaving the face with more wrinkles, the tissue in the face sags and can also create facial hollows.
Facial fillers are designed to eliminate these extremities and create a youthful image that still appears natural.
The filler is injected into the area discussed with your clinician and instantly plumps and hydrates the skin without disrupting the natural contours of the face.
Once you have your new refreshed look the fillers will last for approximately 6 – 12 months and may need to be repeated to maintain the youthful look.

Headaches? You Don’t Have to Suffer!

Man with headache

88 % of women and 69% of men suffer with tension headaches at some point in their lifetime.
The common causes of tension headaches can be stress, neck or back pain due to poor posture or eyestrain. These headaches can be very uncomfortable and difficult to eliminate.
Scientific studies have proven that Botox® relives chronic migraines and tension headaches. This was noticed when many people having treatment for wrinkles noticed a large decrease in their headaches and this resulted in 2010 that the FDA approved Botox® for the treatment of headaches.
The injections take approximately ten minutes to carry out and last on average 3 months.

So why would this treatment work?
The Botox® injections relax the muscle around the head and this has a knock on effect by decreasing the blood pressure within the brain.
The relaxing of the muscle also reduces the nerves ability in the head to send pain signals triggering the headache that we all dread having.
Whether it is a tough day at work, a family function you’re dreading or the stress of planning that children’s birthday party don’t let your headache hold you back.

Facial aesthetics: dermal fillers to rejuvenate your skin

Facial aesthetics treatments are designed as non-surgical methods of refreshing and replenishing your skin, leaving your with a more youthful appearance. At Trinity Dental in Rothwell, our facial aesthetics team is fully qualified to deliver these treatments in a safe and controlled manner.

facial aestheticsAs we get older, unwanted lines, wrinkles and folds have a tendency to appear on the facial skin. This can be caused by a combination of factors, including repeated contraction of the tiny facial muscles, and loss of the naturally-occurring hyaluronic acid that gives the skin its naturally plump and youthful appearance.

Many factors in daily life can take their toll on the skin. Dietary factors – including not keeping adequately hydrated by not drinking enough water, or drinking too much alcohol – lifestyle choices such as smoking or spending too much time in the sun without wearing protective lotion, and just the natural ageing process can all leave visible signs on the face.

Dermal fillers are specifically designed to target problem areas where hyaluronic acid has been lost. At our Rothwell clinic the fillers we use are hyaluronic acid gels that are derived from non-animal sources. These fillers work by replacing the lost hyaluronic acid, producing a natural-looking, plumper, more youthful appearance. They can be used on many areas of the face, and this will be discussed at your initial consultation. Fillers are also suitable for lip enhancement, leaving your lips looking fuller and plumper.

Treatment is painless because local anaesthetic is either incorporated into the filler syringe, or is applied to the skin prior to your filler being injected. Unlike treatment with botulinum toxin, which takes a few days to show fully, the results of treatment with dermal fillers are visible immediately.

Depending on a number of factors including the area treated, the injection technique and the skin type, results will last between six and 12 months before a repeat session is required.
