Botulinum toxin has been widely used for facial rejuvenation. Today it is common for practitioners to treat the whole face with the toxin, rather than confining it to individual areas.
The traditional treatment commonly known is when the upper face is successfully treated. This can lead to a disharmony of the face and can be a giveaway of cosmetic intervention. We aim to educate our patients about the use of toxins and other rejuvenation procedures in the mid-face, lower-face, neck and décolletage, as this is something not often covered in the media and patients may be unaware of the options.
A Nefertiti lift, named after the elegant-necked Egyptian queen, uses strategically placed amounts of a toxin to paralyse parts of the platysma muscle (as shown on the diagram below) This relaxes the bands of muscle that pull the lower parts of the jaw that tend to exaggerate the jowls.
By placing toxin in this area you can create a firmer jawline and smoother neck giving a more youthful appearance.
