Last year the General Dental Council changed the scope of practice for Dental hygienists and Dental Therapists. Meaning that patients now have the option to see a dental care professional (DCP) without having first seen the dentist and without a prescription from a dentist.
The appointment is designed to remove stains, Calculus and plaque deposits that can cause gum diseases. The hygienist will advise on how to clean effectively and how to maintain a healthy mouth leaving you with a bright smile. Appointments will be chargeable and a medical history questionnaire will need to be filled in prior to treatment. During your appointment the hygienist will not responsible for carrying out a full dental examination or diagnosis beyond there scope of practice however should anything be seen or if the patient has any cause for concern they will be advised to seek further treatment from their own dentist or referral to see a dentist here at the clinic.
